The Checklist:A Student's Friend!

For me, ideally my children progress to the point that they learn very independently by the time they're in high school. I'm always there to guide and help them, but by that point I'm more of a tutor than a teacher.

One thing I've found that helps each child prepare for this and start taking responsibility for their own education is a checklist where they can see the plan clearly and be accountable for it. I don't ever want education to be reduced to a checklist, but since the reality is that there is work to be done each day and we can't let mood dictate what we do with our time, it helps a lot to keep track of things like this. I don't include things that I'm responsible for (like story time), only what they can/ should be able to get started on their own.
